A local favorite in historic downtown Savannah, Garibaldi Cafe is festive and romantic. Garibaldi is located in the circa 1871 Germania Fire House. Its German volunteers celebrated their new fire house with “toasts and jokes for several hours,” speeches honoring the “strong arms and brave hearts ready to do and dare at the first signal of alarm,” dancing to “the merry strains of the polka,” and feasting on “the most sumptuous repast ever attacked by mortals.” (Savannah Morning News, October 3, 1871)
